Release Summary

Octopus Desk is a credential provider for Windows that enables password-free authentication to Windows machines and domain environments. Version 4.3.4 introduces several enhancements designed to improve usability, deployment flexibility, and authentication flows.

What’s New in Version 4.3.4

Windows Hello for Business Integration Enhancements

Octopus Desk for Windows now supports the ability to use Windows Hello for Business when the Windows Agent is configured to work in Password Free Experience mode. The new Update Credentials settings in the Windows MSIUpdater, under the Systray tab, enable updating the password stored in the SDO Cloud Vault with the user-managed password.

Shared Account Name Configuration

Octopus Desk now supports the ability to configure the Shared Account Name in the Windows registry. The configured account name is automatically prepopulated in the relevant field on the login screen, helping streamline shared-account authentication flows.

FIDO Authentication Usability Enhancements

A new option in the MSIUpdater FIDO settings allows users to unlock FIDO keys using a PIN code when the key is automatically locked after three consecutive failed fingerprint identification attempts.

RUNFROMFILE Installation Support

The installation.json file is now automatically created when the updated MSI file is generated and is stored in the timestamped version installation folder. This enables RUNFROMFILE installation, allowing administrators to deploy Octopus Desk without reconfiguring the MSIUpdater.

Known Issues

Octopus Desk for Windows version 4.3.4 includes the following known issues, which are planned to be addressed in future versions:

  • Missing translations for certain Systray messages.
  • After launching an SSH session from the Systray using FIDO authentication, an additional Event Viewer event, event code 2000, may be listed.
  • The error message displayed for an unsuccessful attempt to launch Cisco VPN from the Systray may be unclear.
  • Following upgrade to version 4.3.4, auditing details unique to the new version, such as Connected to DC, may show unexpected values.
